Frequently Asked Questions

Getting started

How do I get started?
Call our front office at 914-574-6493 or fill out the form on our Getting Started page. We’ll talk with you about your concerns and schedule an evaluation.

Do I need a prescription?
Yes. New York State requires a prescription from your child’s doctor (MD) before we can begin therapy. Please note that we are a private practice, not a school-based provider, so a prescription or referral from your child’s school can’t be used. Ask your pediatrician for a prescription for physical or occupational therapy, and bring it to your first visit.

What happens at the first visit?
Your child’s first visit is an evaluation. Your therapist will observe how your child moves and plays, talk with you about your concerns, and create a plan with goals that fit your family.

What ages do you see?
We work with children from newborns through young adults. We also offer Baby Handling Sessions for expecting and new parents.

Do you offer both physical and occupational therapy?
Yes! Our physical and occupational therapists work as a team, so children who need both can get coordinated care under one roof.

Insurance and payment

Do you take insurance?
We are an out-of-network provider for most plans, but we work with NYSHIP, Cigna, Aetna, and Blue Cross Blue Shield and participate in-network whenever possible. Coverage depends on your specific plan and is not guaranteed, so please check with our front office before your first visit.

What if you’re out of network with my plan?
Many plans offer out-of-network benefits. We can provide the paperwork you need to submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement. Our front office is happy to help you understand your options.

Are Baby Handling Sessions covered by insurance?
Baby Handling Sessions are self-pay wellness visits.

Scheduling

How often will my child come?
Most children come once or twice a week, but every plan is different. Your therapist will recommend a schedule based on your child’s needs.

What is your cancellation policy?
We ask for at least 48 hours’ notice to cancel and reschedule at the time of your cancellation.

Therapy From a Distance

What if we can’t come every week?
We understand that weekly visits aren’t always possible because of cost, distance, or schedules. Our Therapy From a Distance program gives families a personalized home program with check-ins from your therapist, so your child can keep making progress between visits. Please note we have only limited offerings per calendar year (September through June). Your child has an evaluation in our office, and your therapist creates a home program designed for your child. You’ll practice activities at home, and your therapist will monitor progress through scheduled check-ins via Telehealth or in person and adjust the program as your child grows.In-person weekly therapy is still the best option for most children, but this program can be a helpful alternative when regular visits aren’t possible. Ask our front office if it’s a good fit for your family.

What should my child wear?
Comfortable clothes that are easy to move in, with supportive sneakers. Please no flip-flops, sandals, or other non-supportive shoes, since your child will be using therapy equipment during sessions.

Will I get activities to do at home?
Yes. Your therapist will show you activities to practice between sessions, because progress at home makes a big difference.
